Assignment 13 - Reading Reflection No. 1

For my reading reflection No. 1, I picked the biography of Elon Musk.

I think the one thing surprising me the most was, how Elon Musk relies on himself and his estimations. That is also one of the things, I admire the most about him: He has such a strong belief in himself, which is really difficult to develop for myself.

The thing I admire least is the way he treats employees. Sometimes he is insulting and unfair. There are even headlines about his style of handling employees in the recent news.

Elon Musk experienced adversity and failure when he was kicked out of his own company twice.

I think what was most interesting to me, are the three lessons Elon Musk gives to improve your life:

1) Answering questions is easy, asking the right question is what’s hard

2) Use a succeed-through-determination approach to accomplish your goals

3) Unify all of your work under the roof on one giant goal to have a bigger impact on the world

I think Elon Musk exhibits a strong competency of persistence. When he is failing in one thing, he is going to try it over and over again until it is working.

What was confusing to me was, how one person can manage such a lot of companies and ideas, that strive to change the world. Sometimes I thought that Elon Musk tends to see himself as “the one” who is able to change the world.

If I had the chance to ask Elon Musk two questions, I would ask him, whether he has already new ideas for further businesses and if he really thinks that his thoughts and innovations will contribute to help and save our environment.

I think Elon Musk is working unbelievably hard to achieve his goals. Without hard work, you cannot accomplish much. I share this opinion with him because I think even if you are really talented, you have to work hard for achieving your goals.

    Hello Emilia,

    I am glad that you chose to read about Elon Musk as I think he has been on a lot of headlines lately. I think with every company there should be a great leader that is not giving demands but instead developing. Success within a company starts with the employees. If you treat them right and with respect, you achieve better results. I am the type of person that if I am not getting treated right, no matter if it is my dream job, I will seek for better.

    I like your blog post very well. You have answered all questions really great. The book sounds exciting. Maybe this will be my book for the next Reading task. I really find your answers very differentiated. You have thought up some great questions. You derived the definition of hard work really well. I would imagine that it comes very close to his own definition. Elon Musk is definelty one of the most interesting person at the moment in the entrepreneur world!

Assignment 18 – Create a Customer Avatar

The customer segment I chose two assignments ago is characterized by 18 to 25 years old students who pursue a sporty lifestyle and care a lot about their nutrition. In this assignment, I would like to go a bit further and describe a very specific type of customer, i.e. to create a customer avatar. Customer Avatar The prototypical customer I want to describe is a 22-year old girl, who is a second-year student at a US university. Her major is law. Below you can find my second elevator pitch. Reflection on the feedback from my first elevator pitch The recommendation of including some numbers or facts in my elevator pitch was very helpful. I think that it will help the audience to understand how big the problem really is. Additionally, the listeners might take my elevator pitch more seriously because they might that I am really deep in the subject. One classmate told me that he liked the beginning of my elevator pitch a lot. He thinks that I was really good at putting the listener into the shoes of my customer. What I changed Based on the feedback, I included a statistic saying that 12% of all people between 18 and 29y identify themselves as vegetarians. Furthermore, I kept the beginning of my second elevator pitch very similar to the first one. The only thing I changed at the beginning is to address my main target group, students, directly.
